Idaho Homeschool

Idaho Homeschool Attendance Ages: Student between the age of 7, but no older than 16 are
required to attend school in Idaho.

Idaho Required Days of Instruction: Not applicable.

Idaho Required Subjects:
Children must be instructed in subjects commonly and usually taught in the public schools

Idaho Home School Statute:

A child must be instructed by, or at the direction of, the parent or guardian, in subjects commonly and usually taught in Idaho public schools.

Homeschools do not have to initiate contact with the school district or have their curriculum approved.  If a parent so chooses, she may have another family, relative, or individual homeschool the children because the law allows children to be instructed “at the direction of” the parent.

Parents are not required to register or signup their child for homeschool, since Idaho does not regulate or monitor home school education.  A packaged curriculum is not provided by the state and parents must use other recourses to find a curriculum that works best for their child. Parents must pay for all costs associated with homeschooling, since Idaho provides no state funding.

Current Idaho State Education Standards can be found at the Idaho Department of Education.  Here they outline each subjects core standards that must be learned at each particular grade level.  This will help parents develop a curriculum that meets the needs of the state.

Teacher Qualifications:
No specific qualifications for homeschool teachers.

Standardized Tests: Not required by statute.
